Within 24 hours of issue the White House asked that the copies be recalled so that several important changes could be made to the text. Although a few copies had been delivered, most were reportedly still on a truck bound for the post-office and were returned to the publisher, canceled pages inserted and again mailed out to reviewers. Requests were made to recipients of the uncorrected copies asking for the return of the volumes, fewer than 10 copies were not recovered. The present copy has the publisher's cancel leaf at pp.141-142 laid in, and other corrections made by hand on pp.36, 158, & 269. Review slip laid in, adhesive residue to ffep and slip where it was originally tipped in. Provenance: the collection of Jim Hier. Rare twice-signed advance copy for reviewers.
