by Bramah, Ernest
London: Leadenhall Press, 1894. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. The author's first book, a satirical account of his youthful adventures in farming. Best known for his stories featuring blind detective Max Carrados, Bramah (1868-1942) also wrote science fiction and supernatural stories that have drawn comparisons with the work of H.G. Wells and Algernon Blackwood, respectively. George Orwell acknowledged that Bramah's book What Might Have Been (1900) influenced his Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949). Octavo: 181, [1, blank], [15, ads], [1, blank] p. Original gray flexible cloth boards, with black and gilt stamping. Typical toning to the contents. A very good copy. (Inventory #: 77537)
