by [Chandler, Raymond]
New York: CBS Television, 1953. A two-page contract typescript of a contract with Raymond Chandler, the legendary British-born crime writer, to adapt his short story "The King in Yellow" (with an explicit reference to Robert W. Chambers' cult classic collection of horror stories The King in Yellow, first published in 1895) into a TV show for CBS Television. Signed by Raymond Chandler on the bottom of the second page and initialed twice by him in the first page's right margin. Initialed and edited by various others as well. Printed on rectos only. Very Good, staple in upper left corner has perished, a few tiny tears. A truly scarce document connecting the peerless crime writer to The King in Yellow, which in turn inspired writers like H.P. Lovecraft and the critically-acclaimed TV show True Detective. Within Chambers' original book there is a play that drives anyone who sees it insane, also called "The King in Yellow.
