The first and only issue published of the Czech leftist satirical journal, 16 pp., uncut. Illustrated. Quarto (12 7/8 x 9 1/4 inches). Newsprint self-wrappers. Light toning and soiling, some small closed tears and chipping along edges, a couple of small splits along creases. Prague: Jindřich Tejml and František Bidlo, 1932. The one and only issue published of left-wing cartoonist František Bidlo's (1895-1945) leftist satirical journal. The publication was planned to release monthly issues, but from the start it was heavily redacted by censors and cancelled after the first issue. Founded by Bidlo and Vladimír Borin, the journal was filled with scathing satirical illustrations by Bidlo and other artists including Adolf Hoffmeister and Antonín Pelc.
Bidlo became a socialist after serving in the First World War, and was a strong opponent of Hitler and the Nazis. Although he spent time in Germany, he moved back to Prague after Hitler came to power. When Hitler ordered the invasion of Czechoslovakia after the Munich Agreement of 1938, Bidlo had to go into hiding. He was arrested and imprisoned at Theresienstadt. He died in prison in 1945.
