by [Printer Specimens]. Faithorn Corporation.
Chicago: Faithorn Corporation, 504 Sherman Street, [ca. 1941]. A few instances of leaves browning, some lifting of the pastedowns at the corners; in very good condition.. Ring binder of gilt-lettered black cloth over card stock covers (7.75 x 5.5 inches), 300 pages plus inserts. An attractive handy specimen for a long-time Chicago printer and engraver catering to the advertising industry. With Futura, Kabel, Charter Oak, Neuland Bold and Neuland Inline the only evident sans serifs listed in the prefatory one-line specimen (though there is a short separate section of Gothics that includes Franklin Gothic and Copperplate), with such standbys as Goudy, Kennerly, Cooper Bold, Bodoni, etc. all in evidence. Publication date inferred from the preface, which notes the source of the William Faithorn quotation used throughout the specimen as well as his death in 1691, and that "now, precisely two and a half centuries later, the old name lives in Chicago." Neat pencil ownership inscription at the head of the title page.
