Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1938. Hardcover. Very Good. First edition. Binding cocked with light wear and soil and the spine titling faintly tanned, very good and sound. The text is fine. A novel about the struggles of a young jazz musician, inspired by the tragic life of cornet player Bix Beiderbecke. Basis for the 1950 Michael Curtiz film with predictably great music, and featuring Kirk Douglas, Lauren Bacall, Doris Day, and Hoagy Carmichael. Baker's novel was the fourth to receive the Houghton Mifflin Fellowship Award. (Inventory #: 589544)
