Light rubbing and a few minor nicks and scuffs to boards, moderate rubbing to extremities, early owner name, "Dennis," to head of spine, corners bumped and moderately worn, hinges cracked, early owner inscription, "G.E. Dennis/ University/ of Va./ Sep' 1853-4-5/ E.S. No. 30," to front pastedown. Light toning and moderate foxing to interior, offsetting to margins of endleaves. $450. * Second American edition, based (it appears) on the second London edition (1838), to which it is star-paged. This notable treatise was first published in London in 1834 and went through several English and American editions and issues. According to records accessed through Ancestry.com, this book probably belonged to George E. Dennis [1830-1894], a lawyer who lived and practiced in Rocky Mount, Virginia.
