Paris, 1934. NA. Very Good. A menu, highly decorative, for the banquet celebrating Fox Film Corporation's 15th year with a French outpost. This outpost was more than just a foreign distribution office for American-made films, for it produced and shepherded French films as well, including that year, a "Liliom" directed by Fritz Lang and starring a young Charles Boyer, before the advent of the Hollywood careers of either. Flanking and below the menu itself is a most charming semi-colored illustration -- the colors used are red, blue and silver -- of a lively carnaval in which Fox's French films are plugged. Appropriately above the carousel, for example, (truncated) is a sign reading "Liliom" -- forget not that "Liliom" was also the basis for the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, "Carousel". Other movie titles include "Les 4 Diables", "La Dubarry", "Maman", "L'Aurore". All Fox movies, some from the Silent Era, some made in Hollywood. The menu is a double fold light card sheet, which closed, measures 32 by 16.5 cm. Fully open, it is 49 cm wide. The front has a decorative border of columns or candles, an eruption from which a baby is emerging, a vignette of the Arch of Triumph, French banners, etc. Best to be seen. On another panel is a portrait of the last President of Fox before its merger -- Sidney Kent. The third panel has a tribute, signed in ink, by an official of the French government, J. C. Bavetta.
