Very attractive copy of Henry Blenkinsop's (1813-1866) library catalogue, sold immediately upon his death I 1866. The collection consists of 1099 lots, 1069 of which are books. The catalogue is organized by size and then author and it contains many hundreds of medical books, many on the study of obstetrics, female anatomy, and childhood development. The remainder of the library includes English history and literature, a number of books from the Aldine press, Baskerville's editions of the classics, Shakespeare, and a good amount of natural history.
Blenkinsop was educated at St. Bartholomew's and became a senior surgeon at the Warwick Dispensary and Medical Officer of the Union Workhouse in Warwick. He was appointed Surgeon to the County Prison, and the Southam Infirmary of Diseases of the eye and ear. His skills caught the attention of the London medical community and he became a Fellow of the Royal Medico-Chirurgical and Obstetrical Society of London.
