He considered the postal rate of 25 cents from Boston to Washington exorbitant & the result of government monopoly. He founded his own American Letter Mail Company. The government overwhelmed him with injunctions to which he replied in the present pamphlet. He abandoned his scheme but his efforts resulted in an act of Congress reducing rates."
