signed first edition
1953
by Bradbury, Ray
*** HOT STUFF ***
WITH GREAT PROVENANCE
FAHRENHEIT 451, Ballantine Books, 1953, first edition, light wear to the spine edges, some soiling to the spine and boards as usual, else a tight vg copy without dw as issued. Also contains THE PLAYGROUND & AND THE ROCK CRIED OUT. 1/200 copies signed by the author and specially bound in Johns-Manville Quinterra, an asbestos material with exceptional resistance to pyrolysis. Certainly a high spot of modern literature which has seen few auction records from the major houses in the last 10 years. (A most interesting provenance to this copy. After my suggesting to the publisher of the first edition of FIRESTARTER by Stephen King that producing a special asbestos edition of this title could be a lot of fun, he, as many already know, did so. He obtained this copy now offered for sale by trading one of these 26 such bound copies of FIRESTARTER to Gerry de la Ree for one of de la Ree's copies of the asbestos bound Bradbury title. This is that very copy!) Retrospective HUGO winning novel for 1954. Among those titles listed in BALLANTINE BOOKS: THE FIRST DECADE, Bailiwick Books, 1987. (Inventory #: 17823)
