Dusseldorf, 1830. unbound. Lithograph with hand coloring. Measures 23 7/8" x 19 1/8. Beautiful, labeled print of a llama casting a soft gaze. Part of the "Natural Atlas," a serial publication released during the mid 19th century featuring large, hand-colored lithographs of various animals, including birds, mammals, reptiles and more. Includes watermark that reads J WHATMAN. Minimal foxing and toning. Rare. Georg August Goldfuss (1782-1848) was a German paleontologist, botanist, and zoologist. In 1820, he coined the term 'protozoa' to describe single-celled organisms. (Inventory #: 322398)
