He founded a seminal publishing company named Broadside Press which published many leading African-American writers and poets, among them Sonia Sanchez, Audre Lorde, Gwendolyn Brooks, Etheridge Knight, Sterling Brown, Margaret Walker, and others. This book of poetry compiles poems written by Randall between the 1930s-60s and often concern topics such as inner city life, his military service in the Pacific during WWII, and the Black freedom (truncated)
