Thurman is most often associated with the Harlem Renaissance, though in this book there are no racially identified characters. His co-author Abraham L. Furman would go on to write many books over the years, mostly aimed at a juvenile audience. This, however, would be Thurman's final novel, published two years before he died of tuberculosis in the charity ward of a New York City hospital.
