Nouveau Paris Monumental

This is an iconic circa 1925 tourist pocket map of Paris, France. Centered on the Seine River, the map covers the walled city with a birds-eye-view impression of its monuments illustrated beautifully in profile. Some of the monuments noted include the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triumph, the Pantheon, and several more. The Bois de Boulogne gardens surrounding Paris are incredibly detailed with several surrounding villages noted. Several tree-lined boulevards and streets are noted. This map was issued in several editions between 1900 to 1937. Like most others, this edition is undated. However, (truncated) the metro lines help to assign an approximate date of this particular edition based on the development of the city's metro system.

The verso of the map is just as impressive. It depicts the surrounding region of Paris with beautiful illustrations of important monuments throughout, including the Chateau de Fontainebleau, the Cathedral de Chartres, the Basilique de St. Denis, and the Chateau de Compiegne, among others. Engraved by L. Poulmarie and printed by Dufrenoy. In good condition with minimal wear along fold lines. Accompanied by original red bilingual guide and binder. Map of Paris and Environs on verso.

A. Leconte (1880 - 1930) was a map and guidebook publisher based in Paris and active in the later part of the 19th and early 20th centuries. He was known for publishing a series of art nouveau style "Nouveau Paris Monumental" pocket maps and guidebooks. This is an fine example of that series. (Inventory #: 322268)
