119 Victorian Shawl Pins in Original Box

New York, New York: American & Howe Pin Cos, 1882. Good to very good. Pins in excellent condition, one pin lacking. Box worn with some damage and dust soiling, lacking one apron and part of another, one bottom apron lacking, modern repair to corners inside box.. A collection of one hundred nineteen (119) Victorian shawl pins, housed in their original box. Each set of twelve pins is displayed on a sheet of printed paper with brand information at the head, measuring approx. 8.5" by 3". Enclosed is a printed advert from the American Pin Co., emphasizing the company's quality over quantity approach: "Complaint is often made that our country produces (truncated) no good pins, which arises from the fact that quantities of worthless pins are made and are sold because they are CHEAP. People wishing the very best pins made in this or any other country can be sure of ... the name of 'American & Howe Pin Co.'". Measures 8.75" by 8".

The pins range in size from approx. 2.5" in length to approx. 3" in length. The box measures approx. 8.75" by 3.5" by 1", and has contemporary ink manuscript labels on it, as well as a green printed label on the upper lid. (Inventory #: 20020772)
