Ownership signature in pencil: "Water Armitage, Halstow, Co. Westmeath." In this edition, four new letters from Cowper have been added, and the second half of "The Valediction" (lines 49-98) is published here for the first time. Hayley's (truncated) biography of his friend and fellow poet, William Cowper, was an immediate success when published and did much to established Cowper's reputation as a man of letters.
