These three books are a compilation of the Maximilian-Bodmer collection held in Josyn Art Museum. It consists of art and archival materials related to Prince Maximilian's 1832-1834 expedition to North America. These journals were produced by or for the Prince or collected by Jim for his own purposes. The art is principally that of Karl Bodmer, including approximately four hundred original works in pencil, ink and or watercolor; over five hundred examples of the prints he produced to illustrated Maximilians's publication about their American Journey. It also includes drawings by the prince and watercolors and prints depicting North American subjects by various artists, several pieces are included within these volumes. An interesting day by day journal of their travels. Bound in brown leather lettered in silver, color pictorial pastedown images in color, spine lettered in silver. A fine and handsome set with no names or bookplates.
