[Hawaii] [Military] [WWII] Vintage Original Photo Album from 1943-1944 featuring World War II-Era Men, Women and families and much more in Hawaii just one year after the Pearl Harbor Attack. About 173 photos, all silver gelatin photos in black and white. 47 photographs are loose. Range in size from 8" x 10" to 1.5" x 3" with most measuring 4" x 5". Photo Album measures 9.25" x 11" with woven fabric covers. 62 pages. Many of the photos are identified or labeled, with names, rank or location and year with handwritten desciptions of the photo as well. Several pages of photos are from Hawaii, while other shots are identified as Philadelphia, Lake Michigan, Charlottesville and Tucson. Photos include men in navy and other military uniforms, women on the beach in vintage 1940s swimsuits, in vintage dresses posing with men in army uniforms in front of vehicles and sailing on ships. Photos from Hawaii range from sugar cane fields to native botany and fauna seen on hikes, oxen plowing fields, waterfalls, and shots at the beach. Several photos also feature men in uniform on the beach, providing a glimpse into life in Hawaii just one year after Pearl Harbor. Also included are several shots of native Hawaiians living in huts with their children and paddling out on the water in traditional outrigger canoes. One photo appears to be from a wedding day, featuring a woman in a long white dress holding flowers and smiling. A series of other photos are from a sorority picnic with several young men and women gathering on the grass. With extensive captions capturing their travels, the photo album offers a unique glimpse on Hawaii in the wake of Pearl Harbor and the lives of military men and women outside of the war. Photographs and album are in very good condition.
