[Fashion] [Photography] High fashion runway, editorial, and press release photo archive of designer brands throughout the 1950s-1980s. Designers include Chanel, Givenchy, Dior, Balmain, Yves Saint Laurent, Hermes, Karl Lagerfield, Ungaro, Jean Patou and Isaac Mizrahi on models such as Jean Shrimpton Jerry Hall, and actress Lauren Bacall. 25 silver gelatin photographs. Measurements range between 5" x 7" and 8" x 11.5". Many have original pre-released or published articles describing the designs pasted en verso. Two press released photos from Karl Lagerfield era Chanel shows give insight to rapidly changing trends only 4 years apart. One image shows iconic (truncated) supermodel Jerry Hall in Chanel's classic tweed and plaid suit set, two tone heels, and chain belt from the SS81 Ready to Wear Collection. The other image shows a later Chanel show from 1985 of two models in tweed hats with matching suit jackets as shoulder pads took over the decade, we can also see them wearing iconic Chanel pearl earrings, leather duffle, and monogram brooch. One 1966 Dior editorial shot shows the model in a safari set, wearing a sporty cuffed wide lapeled blouse and mod a-line skirt set called the "Escale," which has made it's way back to the runway of SS22. Two Dior designs two decades apart showcases the softening of the preppy two piece skirt suit with a very "Jackie-O" look from 1965 modeled by cover girl Jean Shrimpton in a thick wool set in a bold check pattern and statement hat, and a military inspired skirt suit from 1980 still displaying a double breasted blazer, pleated a-line, and sailor cap and tie. A very early Givenchy editorial from 1954, only two years after Hubert de Givenchy founded his own luxury house, shows svelte model-actress, Leslie Caron, in a mid-length black wool "afternoon dress" with diagonal draped pleats. Neo-classical drapery is an iconic feature of Givenchy's designs as a model of African-American descent displays an evening gown made of printed muslin cinched at the bodice and draped over the rest of her form from the 1970s. One image shows Hollywood starlet Lauren Bacall in her later years wearing a long line Yves Saint Laurent jacket in 1968. Two Pierre Balmain photos show two polished looks from the 1960s as the models wear matching two piece skirt suits accompanied by long gloves and toque hats. This three decade spread shows the progress of innovative couture design of some of the most iconic fashion houses. Overall very good condition. (Inventory #: 20073)
