Bertha S. Goudy: First Lady of Printing Remembrances of the Distaff Side of the Village Press

A memorial volume dedicated to Bertha S. Goudy. Also, as Peter Beilenson wrote in his foreword,"Two of the contributors to this memorial to Berrtha Goudy are themselves only memories now. Perhaps the last set piece George Macy wrote and the last piece Bruce Rogers wrote and designed, were written for this book. Just in time they added these last bits to the mosaic of memories." Macy's account of a visit to the Goudys and his encounter with her houseful of birds is hilarious, and expressed his own sense of humor and ability to chuckle at his own foibles. Overall, the vignettes lovingly characterize one of the finest periods of American printing.
Each (truncated) of the six vignettes of Bertha made up a signature, and each was designed and printed by different individuals: Clark & Way, The Thistle Press printed Bruce Rogers' offering; the Peter Pauper Press printed Mabel H. Dwiggins' piece; Jane Grabhorn printed Alice Goudy Lochhead's article; Joseph Blumenthal of the Spiral Press printed Paul Bennett's contribution, Emily O'Connor of the Marchbanks Press produced Macy's piece; and John Anderson of the Pickering Press produced F.W.
