Original half black pebbled cloth and printed green paper-covered boards. Some soiling and rubbing to boards, front hinge and spine ends expertly mended. Internally clean. Very good. A rare, locally produced account of Colorado gold mining, including a brief history of the gold discoveries in Gilpin County after the Panic of 1857, descriptions of specific lodes, etc., with many interesting advertisements for Colorado mining companies, drill dealers, banks, and all manner of professionals and merchants. It is the first history and descriptive account of Gilpin County, which was the source of most of the gold mined in Colorado in the 1860s and early 1870s.
