World War I Photo Album Czechoslovakian troops fighting Germans- 1917

[World War I] Photo album containing about 78 photographs all measuring about 4.75" x 6.5" containing military shots from WWI around Europe. A wonderful WWI photo Album of battlefield and encampment photographs taken by a Czech-Slav soldier. Czechoslovak armed forces comprised mostly of Czechs and Slovaks fighting on the side of the Allies during World War I. The Czech soldiers formed their legions in hopes that helping the Allies would ensure independence from the Austrian Empire and the Kingdom of Hungary. Their effort contributed to the new Czechoslovakia at the end of World War I. The soldiers are frequently seen in trenches. The album shows how the (truncated) war had solidified into lines of trenches and followed by some infantry assaults and marches and more trenches. Both sides concentrated on breaking up enemy attacks and on protecting their troops by digging deep into the ground. As well as darker settings like a funeral shot with a cemetery and graves. Other shots include mess halls and outdoor meals, group shots - including one of a military band - houses, courtyards, churches in a village, as well as darker settings like a funeral shot with a cemetery and graves. There's also several photos of performances including a play set outside and also the soldiers marching, or standing in formation for military drills. A photograph of a military medic operating out of facilities the war wounded and another shot of a horse-drawn covered wagon train on a mountain road. In all photos, soldiers appear to be a mix of ethnicity's and nationalists. While the album cover boards are chipping around the edges, all photos are in very good condition. Album offers a unique glimpse into the life of a soldier in Eastern Europe during WWI. (Inventory #: 20063)
