1960s Archive of 6 Lesbian Pulp Novels

[LGBTQ Pulp] Lesbian pulp novels of the 1960s offered a glimpse into queer culture and served as guides for queer readers who learned the culture, terms, bars and other information from the texts, making them integral for those searching for a Lesbian or queer identity. Lesbian Pulp Archive contains 6 pulp novels from the 1960s, some in this written by women, a rarity at the time as most of the Lesbian pulp novels were written by men under pen names. Many have vintage, noir-inspired cover art with one or two women looking longingly at one another, often hiding in shadows. All measure about 4.25" x 7" and are between 130 pages and 160 pages. Collection (truncated) includes:

[1] Christian, Paula. Amanda. New York: Belmont Books, 1969. Second Printing. Cover features a portrait of two women leaning into one another and staring lovingly at each other. Tagline reads: "Her name was Amanda and she was a woman of unbridled passion, but was she a real woman?" Listed in Grier in the A* tier, meaning it has significant lesbian characters and action. Pen name of Yvonne Christine MacManus, she was one of few women writing lesbian pulps, and even more rare, was a lesbian herself and one of few who offered positive endings to her books. Literary scholar Yvonne Keller included MacManus in a small group of writers whose work formed the subgenre of "pro-lesbian" pulp fiction.
[2] Adlon, Arthur. Too Good For Men. New York: Domino Books, 1965. Cover features a [portrait of a red headed woman with another dark haired woman in the shadows behind her. Tagline reads: "From one of the strangest marriages of all time, Lili plunged into a heavenly hell of violent ecstasy." Back cover features a black and white image of the woman in the shadows and confirms "Never Before Published."
[3] Davis, Stephanie. Lust is no Lady. New York: Lancer Books, 1963. Cover features a black and white portrait with red title text of a woman in the foreground as another woman lays in a bed behind her. Tagline reads: "The naked novel that rips away the pretense of a woman's longing for passionate love and fulfillment." Plot follows the lesbian relationship of Marion and Phyl, asking the question "Can love be wrong?" on the back cover. One of few Lesbian pulp novels written by a woman, as many were written by men under pen names.
[4] Roget, A.L. The Secret Places. New York: Domino Books, 1965. Back cover confirms "Never Before Published." Cover features two women sitting on a bed together about to embrace. Tagline reads: "Her memories of male violence and brutality faded as another woman taught her the true mysteries of love." Plot follows Karen and her dancing teacher Myra as they enter into a lesbian relationship.
[5] Richards, Donna. The Odd World. New York: Domino Books, 1965. Cover features two women, a young blonde and an older dark haired woman who caresses her at a dining room table. Tagline reads: "The agony and the ecstasy of Lesbian love were an old tale to Claire. Sandy was only just beginning to learn them." Back cover confirms "Never Before Published." Back cover also features a blue-tinted version of the front cover.
[6] Brittenham, Dale. Lesbian Exposure. London: Lovecrest Books, 1966. Treated as a case study, this pulp documents "real" lesbian relationships and examines the power dynamics. Tagline reads: "A dynamic exploration into the world of the lesbian as seen through the eyes of a trained researcher." Book also features several black and white illustrations throughout of lesbian couples.

All novels in this collection are early examples of Lesbian pulps with covers that are bright and vintage. All textblocks are tight and neat. Collection is in very good condition. (Inventory #: 19926)
