In 1893 Paris, a policeman is sent to investigate a dance-hall under suspicion of performing the illegal can-can dance, but finds himself falling in love with the beautiful proprietor instead. The musical premiered at the Shubert Theatre on May 7, 1953, and ran for 892 performances before closing on June 25, 1955. Adapted for film in 1960 by director Walter Lang, starring Frank Sinatra and Shirley MacLaine.
