Theodore Roosevelt Jr. wrote this letter while Commander of the Twenty-Sixth Infantry to poet Robert Hillyer's wife at the time, Dorothy Hancock Tilton, a literary editor for the Houghton Mifflin publishing house. In it responds that he has no photograph to provide her but does give a memorable quote; "Defense of this country is the first duty of a citizen. (Inventory #: 346067)
