The Misfits (Two original photographs of John Huston, Arthur Miller, and Clark Gable on the set of the 1961 film)

Beverly Hills, CA: United Artists, 1960. Two vintage reference photographs of director John Huston on the set of the 1961 film, one of Huston talking with actor Clark Gable, the other showing Huston sitting with screenwriter Arthur Miller. One with a printed mimeo snipe on the verso, and both with printed provenance labels.

A bleak, haunting film exploring the loss of independence, about a recent divorcée who enters into an unstable relationship with an aging cowboy whom she meets in the Nevada desert.

The final completed feature for Gable and Marilyn Monroe before their deaths. Notoriously a trying endeavor for the actress, who (truncated) was struggling with her drug problem and pending divorce from Miller and would often fail to show up to the set, and for Huston, who would drink and occasionally fall asleep while filming. Gable performed all of his own stunts, then suffered a heart attack only two days after filming ended and died ten days later.
