Two portfolios, each measuring about 12x14 ½ inches.
Provenance: Possibly library J.C.W. Herschel. Purchased from Francis Edwards, Ltd. Marlybone High Street, London, in April 1961. One subsequent owner.
1) Isaac Roberts' Atlas of 52 Regions. A Guide to Herschel's Fields (avec texte anglaise et texte français) Edition commemorating Isaac Roberts' Centenary (1839-1904) by Mrs Isaac Roberts née Dorothea Klumpke
Thomery, France : La maison de Rosa Bonheur (1927)
Complete with 60 loose sheets of star images in original folding binder. One sheet is mounted, the others are single printed sheets. There is an additional (truncated) folding star chart. Complete with 43- page letterpress descriptive text (paperbound, approximately 10x12 inches).
INCLUDED is an original typescript letter signed by J.C.W. Herschel thanking the author for sending him a copy of the work. The rectory address is blindstamped onto the sheet, the verso shows the impression of the typewriter keys as well as the blindstamp. The association of Herschel's letter with this folio suggests, but does not prove, that the Fields was part of his library. There are no further markings to affirm this.

With a 31 page paper cover letterpress text describing the contents. Complete with One folding star chart and 24 separate plates. Contained in original slipcase. Slipcase shows some wear.
Including a copy of Arndt Latusseck, William Herschel's Fifty-two Fields of Extensive Diffused Nebulosity – a Revision.J.A.H.H. 11(3) 235-246 (2008).
Condition : slight dulling to portfolio covers but contents clean and fine.
An unusual work regarding William Herschel's nebulosity fields, a subject little considered in the history of astronomy. Scarce and relatively unknown
