With a film career spanning over 50 years, Marsh easily established herself as one of the rare 20th century actors who were able to make the transition from silent to sound film. She was best known for her appearances in D.W. Griffith's "The Birth of a Nation" (1915) and "Intolerance" (1916), and for her character performances in the 1930s and 1940s, most notably with director John Ford.
