by Duke Ellington
New York: Reprise Records, 1963. Record. Very Good +. The 1963 1st pressing of this 33 1/3 LP record, Reprise R-6069. In both the pictorial jacket and the sleeve. INSCRIBED TWICE (on the verso of the jacket) BY DUKE ELLINGTON to Ralph Segman and his wife. On the left, inscribed "To Mr. & Mrs. Ralf Segman, good luck, Duke Ellington" and on the right, "To Ralf, Merrie Mending! Duke." Segman was stationed in Calcutta in the early 1960s and invited the Classical musician Ali Akbar Khan to give a concert there, which he did -- bringing in tow Duke Ellington and Allen Ginsberg to join him. Ellington inscribed this copy for Segman there in India. Jacket VG, with light soil and edgewear, sleeve VG, with mild creasing and browning along the edges. The record itself is solidly VG. Side A is very clean, Side B has one scratch to it.
