Nicely Inscribed to Hilton Kramer on the title page: "For Hilton, whose critical reading of a half of this gave me the heart to go on. Jean." Kramer was the art critic at *The New York Times* and *The New York Observer*, editor of *The New Criterion*, and also published a critical study of Moore's work. A nice association.
