CHRISTY, Howard Chandler (1872-1952), Painter and illustrator
Manuscript letter, ink on personalized stationery, 1 page (bifolium written on front side only), accompanied by signed portrait photograph of the artist inscribed to Basil O'Connor.
Letter dated July 3, 1923, to Postmaster General New, saying that Christy had sent the requested portrait of General Hays to be hunt in the post office. In very good condition, old pencil note at the top. Photograph apparently unrelated to the letter. Christy was famous for his "Christy" Girls, the successor to the Gibson Girl as well as his World War I military recruitment posters.

Letter dated December 26, to a Miss Emily (presumably his future wife, Emily Louise Phillips), apologizing for missing her that morning and asking her to visit that afternoon. In excellent condition, old date inferred in pencil. Frost is best known for his illustrations of Brer Rabbit and other characters in Joel Chandler Harris' Uncle Remus books.
PEALE, Rembrandt (1778-1860), Neoclassical painter

Noted dated March 29, 1895 [=1859], to C.S.A. Spaulding, which reads "As the oldest American artist perhaps my name may be remembered". He was referring to the fact that he was the last remaining portraitist to have painted George Washington from life. Includes envelope with original postage. In very good condition, a little dampstained. Peale also painted a famous portrait of Thomas Jefferson.

Letter dated 1918 to a Mrs. M.E. Wood, stating that he could visit on the 9th and had important information about a memorial. In very good condition. Pennell was known for his architectural subjects, book illustration and books he authored. (Inventory #: 18325)
