NY: Dodd, Mead, 1944. Bound in red cloth, stamped in black with a 1/3" stripe across the top edge that is a bit lighter. Overall, a tight, clean copy of this -- the first edition of the prolific author's first book. Millar went on to write the highly acclaimed Lew Archer series under the name Ross Macdonald.
