Washington of 4 Jany.” Two other pencil notes relating to the action are below Jackson’s endorsement. Jane Charlotte Blackburn Washington (1786-1855), the wife of John Augustine Washington, nephew of George Washington, had apparently written Jackson on behalf of a disciplined naval midshipman.
