A rare image — considered by many "the greatest photo in jazz history" (THE NEW YORK TIMES) — of Charlie Parker, Thelonius Monk, Charles Mingus, and Roy Haynes performing at NYC's Open Door on September 13, 1953. Robert Parent (1923-1987) was one of the pioneers of jazz photography. He combined a keen eye and appreciation for his subjects with a technical know-how that allowed him to capture images that eluded lesser practitioners. Determined not to disrupt performances, he developed a technique that became known as "available light photography," which allowed him to work in the dark environments of clubs (truncated)
