The feminist artist "staged her first Tirs or Shooting Paintings in Feb. 1961. The "shooting paintings", her first major breakthrough, are assemblages of objects, together wtih bags of liquid paint, on wooden boards, that she covered with white plaster. When shot with a rifle, drips of color were created. The paintings were often created during live performances, in conjunction with fellow artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns and Jean Tinguely.
