New York: Frederick A. Stokes Company, 1898. Near fine.. Beautiful first edition of a collection of short stories and poems about the lives of Victorian children, with chromolithographs based on the sweet watercolors of Maud Humphrey. Maud Humphrey was one of the most successful women artists of her time. She had a son, Humphrey, with Belmont DeForest Bogart; little Humphrey would often model for her, before, of course, becoming a movie star. A great copy, scarce in this condition. 11'' x 8.25''. Original cloth-backed color pictorial boards. Full-page color frontispiece with five full-page color plates and numerous black-and-white line illustrations (truncated)
