Contents lightly browned but otherwise sound and clean. The three members of the commission were Dr. Cuthbert Christy of the League of Nations, Dr. Charles Spurgeon Johnson of the United States and Former President Arthur Barclay of Liberia. The commission reported on Liberia's "closed door" policy, rampant graft, forced labor and other mistreatment of the indigenous population, etc. The Liberian President and Vice President resigned as a result of the report and (truncated) Liberia remained independent. The original owner of this copy was probably Matthew Wesley Clair, an African American, whose first assignment when he became a bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church was Monrovia, Liberia where he served for six years (1920-1926).
