Original press caption adhered to back of photo: “Argentines cheer women’s suffrage decree. Buenos Aires: A throng of 100,000 cheers as President Juan D. Peron of Argentina signs on the balcony of the Presidential Palace a decree that gives Argentine women the right to vote. The decree was one of the major projects of the President’s wife.” During the public ceremony, President Peron signed the bill and handed it to his wife, First Lady Eva Peron, thereby acknowledging her role in passing the initiative. These original press photo taken by photojournalist within tight timeframe for the benefit of particular editorial board and with the aim of usage by the press to illustrate an article often affected public opinion in the nation.
