London: John Stockdale, 1787. First Edition. Full Leather. Very Good binding. 382pp. The first London edition in near contemporary calf with red morocco title label on the spine. The front board has been reattached. There are two early previous owner names on the title page, one dated 1797 and scratched out in a contemporary pen; general toning and foxing throughout. The folding table is present and in good condition. this copy lacks the folding map of Virginia. The only book by Jefferson published in his lifetime. This edition preceded by the virtually unobtainable Paris edition which was limited to 200 copies. The first appearance in English. (Sabin 35896; Howes J78; Clark I:262). Very Good binding.
