While primarily recording their time in New York State where they acted as "book peddlers" to finance their travels, Charlotte Hosmer and Sarah Mendell also visited Richmond, Petersburg and Norfolk, Virginia, as well as Raleigh, North Carolina. Their Notes includes some observations on slavery. Clark notes this this book "is a real contribution to travel literature." Bound in publisher's blue/green embossed cloth with title blocked in gold on the spine; general shelfwear to the extremities including some fraying at the spine ends; foxing throughout with some occasional pencil marginal brackets.
