Separate errata sheet printed on the copyright page. This material was a passion for the curators, both of them my good (truncated) friends. Judith's personal collection of artists' books is in the special collections of the University of California campuses at Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and her umbrelliana is at UC San Diego, in La Jolla. Joan was an incomparable librarian, teacher, writer, and thinker at Otis Art Institute, where she formed a great collection of ephemera and artists' books, most of it now dispersed, unfortunately. All the early figures appear here: Ed Ruscha, Allan Kaprow, Ian Hamilton Finlay, John Baldessari. An essential document.
