John Burroughs (1837 - 1921) was an American naturalist and nature essayist, active in the U.S. conservation movement. In the words of his biographer Edward Renehan, Burroughs' special identity was less that of a scientific naturalist than that of "a literary naturalist with a duty to record his own unique perceptions of the natural world." In his 1910 journal, Burrough's wrote: "Joy in the universe, and keen curiosity about it all--that has been my religion."--Wikipedia Photographer Greene is mentioned in The Works of John Burroughs (Volume 16 of the Riverby set). HANDSOME photo of the great naturalist and writer reading a book by candlelight. With a San Rafael Auction tag on the backing dated 1947. COA furnished upon request.
