NY: Harcourt, Brace, 1946. A review copy with review slip tipped in at the ffep. Book is bound in maroon stamped in gold which is faded, but still readable on spine. In the second state dustwrapper (with reviews on the back panel and the Sinclair Lewis blurb moved to the rear flap) is bright and clean with just a few small closed tears primarily to top edge. A very collectible copy of a tough first edition -- considered the author's best work. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in year of publication and basis for the film of the same name that starred Broderick Crawford. This book is from a literary professor who taught at Princeton in the 40's and 50's.. (truncated)
