Lectures on the calculus of variations. On the topic of the calculus of variations Bolza's "book Lectures on the calculus of variations (1904) presented the most recent contributions of Weierstrass, Adolf Kneser, and David Hilbert, as well as his own comments. In this book and other writings he added to the theory in the plane and the problem of Lagrange with fixed end points. He extended and applied existence theorems for implicit functions and for solutions to differential equations. Bolza's most significant single contribution was the unification of the problems of Lagrange and Mayer into his more general problem of Bolza." DSB. A classic work in the field of the calculus of variations. Parke, Guide to the literature of mathematics and physics, p. 97. DSB, II, p. 271. (Inventory #: S1576)
